Who are we at Kolab Ventures?

Kolab Ventures is a Venture Studio backed by a business group, based in Hermosillo, Mexico. We’re part of Kolab, the innovation arm of Grupo Koval, a diversified group of companies. While Kolab Ventures operates with autonomy, we’re supported by the strength and long-term vision of our group.

What is the selection criteria?

Accepted Answer

We evaluate three main factors, in this order of priority:

1. The person: We’re investing in you, not only your idea. We look for your capabilities, mindset, skills, and potential to build something extraordinary.
2. The problem: How well do you understand the problem you want to solve? Is there a real opportunity behind it?
3. The solution: If you already have an idea, product, or traction, that’s great. But it’s not required. What matters most is your potential and clarity on the problem.

How many participants will be selected?

Only three participants will be selected to join the program.

Question 4

Who can apply and where do they need to live?

Accepted Answer

The program is open to applicants across Latin America and the broader Americas.

You can apply from anywhere, but you must be able to travel to Mexico

Question 5

Can I apply as a team?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but the venture studio model favors solo founders or duos. If you apply as a team, the cash and investment terms will remain the same, and we’ll evaluate the dynamic and commitment of the whole team.

Question 6

Will the program be remote or in-person?

Accepted Answer

Mostly remote, but with key in-person events:
 • Pre-selection: Finalists will meet with us in-person in Mexico City or Hermosillo (travel not covered).
 • Kickoff (TBD, likely in Mexico City)
 • Midpoint gathering (TBD)
 • Demo Week in Hermosillo & San Carlos, Sonora (at the beach). We’ll cover travel support for selected founders.

We might also offer coworking spaces in Hermosillo and Mexico City.

What is the expected level of commitment?

Accepted Answer

We expect 100% dedication.
This program is designed to be the launchpad for your life's work, your dream startup. That means full-time focus, no side hustles.

Question 8

Do I need a legal entity to apply?

Accepted Answer

No, not at all.

In fact, we’re assuming you don’t. That’s the default scenario. If you already have a company, we’ll discuss how to adapt the structure depending on your situation, traction, or existing investors.

Question 9

What are the investment terms?

Accepted Answer

If selected, you will receive:
 • $40,000 USD in cash
 • Plus non-cash support (in-kind) throughout the program: mentorship, expert guidance, hands-on support from our specialized team, network access, and more.
 • In exchange for up to 10% equity in a new company to be created together.

At the end of the program, you will have the opportunity to pitch your project to Kolab Venture’s Investment Committee. If selected for follow-on investment, we will invest up to $250,000 USD in the newly created company.
Even after this follow-on investment, Kolab Ventures will continue offering hands-on support as you scale, just like we did from day one.
As a Venture Studio, we’re not just investors. We build with you.

Question 10

How many participants will receive the follow-on Pre-Seed investment?

Accepted Answer

There is no fixed number.

This is not a competition. Every participant will have the opportunity to pitch their venture during Demo Week. However, follow-on investment is not guaranteed. Investment decisions will be based on the strength of the business opportunity, traction, and the judgment of our investment committee.

What if I already have a startup, traction, investors, or revenue?

Accepted Answer

You can still apply.

We’ll evaluate your case individually. If selected, we’ll discuss whether to use the standard model or explore a custom investment setup that fits your current structure.

There may be room for negotiation, at Kolab’s discretion.

Question 12

What if I’m working on something outside Kolab Ventures’ main focus areas?

Accepted Answer

You can still apply.

However, your chances of being selected are lower if your focus is not aligned with one of Kolab Ventures' four core verticals. That said, we’re always open to outliers. If you’re exceptional, we’ll consider it.

The application process begins on April 21 and closes on May 24. During this time, submissions will be reviewed and evaluated on a rolling basis.

Finalists Selection

From May 25 to May 31, selected candidates will be notified if they advance to the final round.

Finalist Interviews by Core Mentors

Between June 9 and 17, the Core Mentors will conduct interviews with the finalists to evaluate their potential and ability to collaborate.

Announcement of the 3 Chosen Founders

The final participants will be announced between June 23 and 27, officially confirming their place in the program.

100 Days of Innovation

The program runs from July 7 to October 10, guiding founders from ideation to a functional MVP and early market launch.

Follow On Investment

You will have the chance to secure a follow-on investment of up to $250,000, a life-changing opportunity to turn your vision into reality.
